<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupling device connecting first and second couplings even if their axis are not aligned, and to provide an image forming apparatus having the coupling device. <P>SOLUTION: The coupling device includes: a drive side coupling 52, which has a drive side base 52a attached to the one end of a rotation shaft, and has a plurality of drive pawls 52b disposed on the peripheral face of the base 52a; and a follower side coupling 51, which has a follower side base 51a attached to the other end of the rotation shaft, and has a plurality of follower pawls 51b disposed on the internal circumferential face of the base 51a. The follower side coupling 51 is connected to the drive side coupling 52 so as to be freely detached in the axial direction. When the drive side coupling 52 and follower side coupling 51 are connected together, the drive pawls 52b and follower pawls 51b are engaged with one another such that the drive pawl 52b face the follower pawl 51b.
