PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk player which has an algorithm to assign a chapter number to each of the multi-PGCs when reproducing the multi-PGC title domains in the data structure of DVDs. SOLUTION: The play position discriminator checks at the start of playback whether or not a certain position has been already reproduced in the multi-PGCs. When judged that it has been already reproduced, the chapter number assigning means assigns a chapter number to each of the PGCs. The table storing means stores the table showing the relation between the chapter numbers and PGC numbers thus assigned in a flash ROM. When reproducing the title domain of the PGC, the chapter number display means reads the chapter number matching the PGC number of the PGC from the table in the flash ROM and displays it on the on-screen display.
