PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor in which a uniform clamping pressure can be made to act on the capacitor body and the capacitor can be made compact. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor 10 has a capacitor body 11 where electrolytic solution containing electrolyte is interposed between polarizing electrodes, and clamping members 13a and 13b arranged on the opposite sides of the capacitor body 11 through elongating/contracting members 12, respectively. Since the capacitor body 11 and the clamping members 13a and 13b are clamped from the periphery by means of a belt-shaped member 14, uniform clamping pressure can be made to act on the capacitor body 11 by the elongating/contracting force of the elongating/contracting member 12, and since useless space on the capacitor structure is eliminated by the belt-shaped member 14, the electric double layer capacitor 10 itself can be made compact.
