PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead excellent in a balance between a bending strength and a concentration. SOLUTION: This method for producing the porous pencil lead, comprising using at least a binder and an extender as raw materials, extruding the kneaded raw materials in a fine line state and then applying a calcination treatment to the extruded product, is characterized by arranging ultra fine particulate microcapsules having a d50 particle diameter value of 20 to 100 nm and encapsulating an organic substance in the pores of the pencil lead, and then thermally treating up to a temperature for carbonizing the organic substance.
