PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zirconia sol having a crystal lattice structure of tetragonal system and/or cubic system which is excellent in the stability over a long period of time and can suitably be used for optical films such as an antireflection film, and to provide inexpensive and easy method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The zirconia sol contains≥0.2×10<SP>-2</SP>alkali metal oxide (M<SB>2</SB>O, in which M is an alkali metal) as M<SB>2</SB>O/ZrO<SB>2</SB>molar ratio in a zirconia (ZrO<SB>2</SB>) which is a dispersoid, wherein the zirconia sol preferably has the crystal lattice structure of tetragonal system and/or cubic system.
