PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer system for transfering a hot-rolled coil at various speeds through consecutive stations, which can accelerate or decelerate the cooling of the coil at controlled cooling speeds. SOLUTION: The transfer path of the coil is regulated by a plurality of consecutively arranged conveying sections so as to be driven separately. A plurality of heat-treating stations are aranged with a space one from the other along the transfer path. The coil in an upright position is transferred through one or more of the heat-treating sections along the transfer path on the conveying sections. The speeds at which the coil is conveyed on the separately driven conveying sections are controlled to provide different transfer and/or dwell times for the coil at different locations along the transfer path.
