<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal alignment layer having high light durability, and to provide a method of manufacturing the liquid crystal alignment layer by a simple layer. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal alignment layer 11 having a plurality of pores 12 formed vertically or substantially vertically to a substrate contains any one of silicon, germanium or silicone and germanium, and oxygen. The method of manufacturing the liquid crystal alignment layer having the plurality of the pores formed to vertically or substantially vertically to the substrate has a process for forming a structural thin film dispersed in a member containing silicone, germanium or silicon and germanium obtained by forming eutectic with aluminum by a columnar substance containing aluminum on a substrate, and a process for forming the plurality of pores by removing the columnar substance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
