PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head gimbal assembly capable of reducing an offset phenomenon generated between a read/write head and a disk due to disk vibration, improving the track following capability of the read/write head, and simplifying a suspension structure to make manufacturing and assembly easy, and to provide a hard disk drive having the head gimbal assembly. SOLUTION: The head gimbal assembly includes a load beam to support a slider where a read/write head is mounted, a base plate arranged closed to the load beam, and a step connection portion to connect the load beam and the base plate to be stepped from each other at a side of each of the local beam and the base plate.
