PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically restore data in an external storage device to an optional point of time without imposing any load on a host computer. SOLUTION: An application 110 on the host computer instructs setting of a restoration chance to a data restoration control process 340 of a disk controller (S3). By setting a restoration flag included in journal data, a plurality of optional points of time can be registered as restoration enabled points of time. If a failure and the like occurs and data should be restored, the application 110 requests the list of already set restoration chances (S5). The application 110 designates the point of time of to which data should be restored based on the restoration chance list (S8).
