PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which fixes an image, by heating the surface of a fixing roller having an elastic layer, the fixing device that is constituted to instantaneously stop supplying of electricity to a heating member, at the runaway of a heating member. SOLUTION: The fixing device is such that a metallic fitting ring which is fitted onto the outer periphery of the fixing roller is provided in the heated area of the fixing roller, and outside a paper passing area and a safety device is made to abut against it.
