PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer printer which makes printing while fully preventing an ink ribbon and a printing medium from being wasted. SOLUTION: The thermal transfer printer is constituted to have: a remaining printing amount computing means (S2) which computes a remaining printing amount to the printing medium when a terminal end part of the ink ribbon is detected by a ribbon end detecting means that detects the terminal end part of the ink ribbon on an upstream side predetermined position of a printing position; a judging means (S3) which judges whether printing of the remaining printing amount can be made with a remaining part of the ink ribbon from the upstream side predetermined position of the printing position to the printing position; and a continuous printing controlling means (S4) which makes the printing head continue printing of the remaining printing amount on the printing medium with the remaining part of the ink ribbon when the judgment that the printing can be made is made.
