<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for automatically locating and identifying labware using a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag. <P>SOLUTION: This method and the system include a plurality of RFID tags (pre-programmed by unique data codes) associated with the labware (or a labware holders). The RFID tags can be embedded within locating pegs of the labware (or the labware holders), and include a plurality of RFID tag readers mounted near a known location of an instrument deck supporting the labware. The RFID tag readers automatically scan the presence of the RFID tags when arranging the labware on the instrument deck, and then, report a specific position of the respective tags and the unique data codes of the respective tags detected on a deck to a processing device.
