PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a taking-up method which can stably take up a veneer cut by a veneer lathe while saving labor, improves the yield of veneer, eliminates futile drying, and improves productivity. SOLUTION: A damper D is lifted to an exclusion position and stand ready. The veneer obtained by cutting material wood 1 with the veneer lathe A is conveyed by a first conveyer B1 and a second conveyer B2. When the boundary on the lower side in the conveyance direction between the defective part and effective part of the veneer is sensed by a veneer sensor C1, it is cut by a cutting edge 5. Next, the seed of the second conveyer B2 is increased to exclude the defective part below the damper D. Next, before the lower side end in the conveyance direction of the effective part of the veneer reaches the damper D, the damper D is moved down to a guide position and made to wait, and the effective part is conveyed from a third conveyer B3 to a take-up apparatus F to take up the veneer. When the boundary on the upper side in the conveyance direction is detected by the veneer sensor C1, it is cut by the cutting edge 5. Next, the take-up speeds of the second conveyer B2, the third conveyer B3, and the take-up apparatus F are increased. After the upper side end part in the conveyance direction of the effective part passes through the spot of the damper D, the damper D is rotated at an exclusion position and made to wait.
