PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink tank suppressing the erroneous detection of running-out of ink. SOLUTION: An ink storing room 25 for storing the ink is provided in an ink cartridge 21. This ink storing room 25 is provided with a first ink absorbing body 28 absorbing the ink by a capillary force and holding it. On a lower part of the first ink absorbing body 28, a cutout part 52 is formed, and a space 56 without the first ink absorbing body 28 is provided thereby in the ink storing room 25. An interface BS is generated thereby between this space 56 and the adjoining ink absorbing body 28. A region 27 to be detected wherein existence of the ink is detected by a sensor 26 for detecting running-out of the ink is set in the space 56. When a liquid surface LS is lowered, as the interface BS increases the flow resistance of the ink toward the region 27 to be detected, the ink hardly flows to the region 27 to be detected and the erroneous detection of the running-out of the ink is suppressed.
