PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optimum driving method when the frame frequency of a driving signal of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal display device is high and no antiferroelectric phase is present at 0V. SOLUTION: As for a driving method for a simple matrix color liquid crystal display device, the liquid crystal display device has a lighting device which emits independent light beams of the three primary colors in order, and a one-field period comprises at least three subfield periods to emit light of the three primary colors, each subfield comprising a write period wherein row electrodes are selected in order with a row electrode selection signal, a light emission period wherein the lighting device emits the light, and a reset period. Then a well signal which has a time width nearly twice as large as that of the row electrode selection signal is applied to a liquid crystal substance in the reset period.
