PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader without causing a time loss even in reading of several documents, by improving inconvenience by detecting the document number loaded on a document tray as weight, by arranging a weight detecting part. SOLUTION: This image reader has a document feeding means for feeding paper one by one by lifting a plurality of documents loaded on the document tray up to a paper feeding position, a document carrying means for carrying the document fed from the document feeding means to a reading position, a reading means for reading an image of the document carried to the reading position by the document carrying means, and a paper ejecting means for ejecting the document read by the reading means to a paper ejecting part, and further has the weight detecting part for detecting weight of the document loaded on the document tray.
