PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of detecting curls of sheet materials in a simple manner. SOLUTION: This sheet material carrying device is provided with curl detecting mechanisms for detecting curls of sheet materials on a sheet material carrying path. The curl detecting mechanisms are arranged in both sides sandwiching the sheet materials carrying path, and have sheet material detecting means for detecting the sheet materials by contacting with them. Curls of the sheet materials are detected by the two sheet material detecting means. The curl direction is determined by the detection order of the sheet materials and the curl amount is determined by a detection timing difference. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
