Apparatus for the mechanical and electrical linkage between the ends of two essentially coaxial shafts (1, 2) has: - (a) each shaft end includes a neck (11, 12) in the proximity of an axial elongation of the end (17, 8; 18, 9); - (b) the ends are joined to the inside of a sleeve provided with: - a first annular shoulder (13), of which the shape is complementary and without play with the neck of the first shaft; - a second annular shoulder (14), of which the shape is complementary but with play to that of the neck of the second shaft; - a cavity (16) destined to receive the ends of the shaft, of which the axial height is greater than the sum of the axial heights of the axial elongation of the ends; - (c) the axial elongation of the two shafts remain in permanent mechanical and electrical contact by means of an elastic conductor (7). - Independent claims are also included for: - (i) apparatus for a tank for the production of aluminum by electrolysis incorporating this linkage system; - (ii) a device for pricking and measuring the solidified surface crust of the electrolysis bath.
