PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio meter reading system improved in communication certainty of radio communication between an external device and a meter. SOLUTION: When communication via radio waves is carried out, light is radiated from the external device 150 to a meter main body 100, and only the light in the direction matching the directivity of the radio waves is received by a light receiving part 107. When an operator is informed of receipt of the light, the operator can detect the position/angle, which is suitable for transmission of radio waves, of the external device 150 to the meter main body 100.
