PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regulate a signal by a detecting element for uniformity in a quadrature phase and an amplitude. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method for determining two pseudo-sine-wave signals in the quadrature phase, using the pseudo-sine-wave signal transmitted from an encoder 1. The method uses at least four detecting elements 3 arranged linearly and uniformly with respect to a detecting means 2 arranged in a reading distance of the encoder 1 and for transmitting a signal transmitted from the encoder 1, as a signal S<SB>i</SB>. In the method, the transmitted signals S<SB>i</SB>is measured, and the signals S<SB>i</SB>are combined to form a signal U and a signal V in the quadrature phase calculated by (S<SB>1</SB>-S<SB>2</SB>)-(S<SB>3</SB>-S<SB>4</SB>) and (S<SB>2</SB>-S<SB>3</SB>).
