PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkoxy-N-isopropyl-propionamide changing a substance to be dissolved by temperature and to provide a solvent and a cleaning agent readily recoverable and purifiable after use. SOLUTION: The alkoxy-N-isopropyl-propionamide has a temperature range exhibiting hydrophobicity and a temperature range exhibiting hydrophilicity and the lower temperature range exhibiting the hydrophilicity than the temperature range exhibiting the hydrophobicity. The alkoxy-N-isopropyl-propionamide is represented by formula R<SP>1</SP>-O-CH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>C(=O)NH-CH(CH<SB>3</SB>)<SB>2</SB>(wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C alkyl group).
