PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detector capable of discriminating a transmitted ultrasonic wave from an external noise, even when an external ultrasonic wave exists, and capable of detecting a distance up to an object to be detected such as an obstacle, and an azimuth thereof, without recognizing erroneously the position of the object to be detected as a result thereof. SOLUTION: This object detector has an echo sounder transmitter for transmitting the ultrasonic wave toward a detection area, a plurality of echo sounder receivers for receiving a reflected wave of the ultrasonic wave reflected on the object to be detected existing in the detection area, and for converting it into an electric signal, and a detecting part for detecting the object to be detected, by calculating the distance up to the object to be detected, and an azimuth thereof, based on the electric signal from the each echo sounder receiver, and the azimuth of the object to be detected is calculated, when a time from a point when an intensity of the ultrasonic wave transmitted from the echo sounder transmitter gets maximum at first to a zero cross point, and a time from a point when an intensity gets maximum at first after receiving the reflected wave by the echo sounder transmitter to a zero cross point, have the same value.
