PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-emitting laser element that can easily achieve high output and basic lateral mode oscillation. SOLUTION: The surface-emitting laser element 10 includes a first reflecting layer 12, an n-type spacer layer 13, an active layer 14, and a p-type spacer layer 15 that have been laminated sequentially. On this p-type spacer layer, a first tunnel junction structure 18 and a second tunnel junction structure 19 isolated from the first tunnel junction structure are provided. These tunnel junction structures are covered with the n-type spacer layer 25 provided on the second spacer layer. A second reflecting layer 28 is formed on this n-type spacer layer.
