PROPHYLACTIC OR THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR DIABETIC MACULOPATHY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a model animal with diabetic maculopathy, and a method for evaluating a medicine to the diabetic maculopathy by using the animal. SOLUTION: The model animal with the diabetic maculopathy produced by subjecting a diabetic animal to intraocular ischemia/reperfusion to express edema in a retinal visual cell layer or in a macula lutea is provided. Preferably, the model animal with the diabetic maculopathy is obtained by subjecting only one eye to the intraocular ischemia/reperfusion treatment, and has the treated eye and a non-treated eye in the same individual. The method for evaluating the efficacy to the edema of the medicine includes administering a test medicine to the model animal with the diabetic maculopathy, and measuring the thickness of the retinal visual cell layer or the thickness and/or volume of the macula lutea.
