A method for determining a mode for counting the use of resources using a user's terminal having transmitted at least one request for accessing a service by a service access entity in an information transmission network 15, wherein said method is implemented using an application server of said network and characterised in that it includes the following steps: receiving information relating to the counting mode from said service access entity; determining the appropriate counting mode according to the resources 20 used by the user's terminal for accessing said service; modifying said information relating to the counting mode in order to indicate the determined counting mode; and sending said information to said service access entity (2).
