PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which enables types of attached optional units to be surely and easily recognized by a control system. SOLUTION: The printer which enables attachment of a plurality of types of optional units is constituted to include: a reading means (21, 22 and 20) which reads option information that specifies the optional unit stored by an RFID tag 210, by communicating with the RFID tag 210 set in the attached optional unit 200; and a determining means 20 (S3) which determines the attached optional unit on the basis of the read option information.
