In a process to operate an automotive fuel injection system, the incoming two-stage pressure wave is corrected in the jet. The fuel charge is sub-divided into a first phase and a second phase. The first phase fuel introduced in the first phase is detected by a sensor that sends a signal to a supplementary control unit to modify the incoming pressure wave in the second phase. The pressure waves combine and correct without triggering a second injection charge.
