Electronic data transmission takes place between a monitoring unit (2) and a labeling unit (3) fastened to the article (5) and associated with a limited region (4). It is determined whether the label has left the region. Data transmission is effected using ultra broad band technology. When the label leaves the region, an alarm is triggered. Data transmission takes place at regular intervals.
