<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display nearly free from generation of reduction in luminance and capable of effectively avoiding generation of moire, and to provide a portable information terminal device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: When pixels of a liquid crystal display panel which constitutes the liquid crystal display are arranged in a direction X<SB>1</SB>and a prism-shaped prism element array which constitutes a prism sheet 136 of a backlight module is extended in a direction X<SB>2</SB>, both directions are not completely coincident with each other and have angle difference of e.g. 4.5°. A flat surface side of the prism sheet where no prism is formed is directed to the liquid crystal display panel side.
