PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform discharge without being affected by particles contributing to conductivity other than soot, in a soot sensor comprising a center electrode extending from the tip of a cylindrical electrical insulating member and a heater to be attached to the outer surface of the electrical insulating member. SOLUTION: A soot sensor includes a cylindrical member 200 made of electrical insulating material and a rod member 300. The rod member 300 is inserted into the cylindrical member 200, and extends from a tip opening 234 of the cylindrical member 200 in the center electrode 320. The heater 400 is stuck to the intermediate part on the tip side on the outer peripheral surface of the tip-side part 230 of the cylindrical member 200. A sealing member 700 is formed of sealing material in a sectional hollow truncated cone shape, and attached to the outer peripheral surface of an electrode section 321 of the center electrode 320 and the opening surface of the tip opening 234 of the tip-side part 230 of the cylindrical member 200.
