PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a liquid crystal display device that can suppress a driving voltage for a liquid crystal substance low and can use a liquid crystal substance having spontaneous polarization. SOLUTION: A ferroelectric liquid crystal substance having spontaneous polarization is sandwiched between two opposite substrates, a pixel electrode corresponding to a liquid crystal cell 44 and a TFT 41 for switching connected thereto are provided on one substrate internal surface, and a capacitor 45 for accumulating electric charges is connected to the pixel electrode. Scanning times of a first scan made for display on individual pixels of the liquid crystal cell 44 and a second scan made to erase the display are set to≤10μs respectively, and the ratio of the capacity (C<SB>S</SB>) of the capacitor 45 to the capacity (C<SB>LC</SB>) of the liquid crystal cell 44 is so set that 0.2≤C<SB>S</SB>/C<SB>LC</SB>≤5.
