PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a running device in a boiler heat transfer pipe group capable of being freely moved in the pipe axis direction and up and down direction of the boiler heat transfer pipe group even in narrow piping like zigzag piping and capable of efficiently and precisely measuring the wall thickness reduction quantity of the piping even if the gap dimension of the boiler heat transfer pipe group is slightly varied, and to provide a device and method for inspecting the wall thickness of the boiler heat transfer pipes. SOLUTION: The gap between an upper roller and a lower roller is altered, and an upper arm mechanism and a lower arm mechanism are opened and closed by the slide mechanism moved up and down in a device main body. A wall thickness inspection sensor protruding and retracting mechanism which supports the device body is operated while subjected to expansion and contraction movement in an up and down direction within the heat transfer pipe group and a wall thickness inspection sensor is pressed to the boiler transfer pipe to inspect the wall thickness thereof.
