PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time to be spent on processing whose load is heavy by minimizing the increase in the power consumption of an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: An SDR-SDRAM is switched from a low speed operation to a high speed operation in response to the S2 operation of a shutter button, and image data showing an image to be displayed on a display picture or compressed image data digitally compressed by a compression processing (processing P15) are temporarily stored. The DDR-SDRAM is switched from a low power consumption operation to a normal operation simultaneously with the start of exposure, and photographic image data fetched by a fetch processing (processing P13) and photographic image data to which signal processing (processing P14) has been operated are temporarily stored. Then, the DDR-SDRAM is switched from the normal operation to the low power consumption operation simultaneously with the end of the compression processing (processing P15).
