PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store images so as not to make luminance change region included that is aimed at transmission of information and cause structural nonconformities. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus discriminates the presence/absence of the luminance change region in a photographed image; and when the luminance change region exists, the image processing apparatus executes trimming of the photographed image in the lateral direction. That is, the image processing apparatus establishes two trimming candidate lines 64, 65 that are in contact with both sides of the luminance change region 62, in parallel with a longitudinal side 63 of the photographed image 61, excludes either of the two trimming candidate lines 64, 65 closer to the longitudinal side 63 from the candidates, determines the remaining line as a final trimming line 66, and excludes part between the remaining trimming line 66 and the longitudinal side 63 closer to the trimming line 66 and obtains a lateral trimming completed image 67.
