PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform work by an operator, when reading the images of a plurality of originals by an image reader, and transmitting these pieces of image information to external equipment, and making the storage part store it. SOLUTION: The main processing part 56 of an image reader 50 measures the time (original reading time per sheet of original), since the start of feeding of an original by an original feeding part to the end of the image reading of the original by an image reading part, and detects the residual number of originals to be fed by the original feed part, and calculates the residual time, until the reading of all the images of the originals to be fed by the original supply part ends by the image reading part, on the basis of the original reading time per sheet of the original and the residual number of originals, and makes a communication part 57 transmit information that shows the residual time to a host (external equipment) 60.
