A razor has a thin shaving blade ( 21 ) arranged so as to make direct contact with the user's skin, in use, and driver means ( 24, 25 ) for vibrating the blade as it is moved in contact with the user's skin. In a preferred embodiment the razor has a thin shaving blade ( 21 ) provided with a layer ( 22 ) of giant magnetostrictive material on at least a surface thereof and means ( 24, 25 ) for applying an oscillating magnetic field to the blade such that the surface of the blade is caused to flutter.
