In a steering or other gear a nut 12 is moved by a screw 10 acting through one or more continuous series of ball: and is connected to a lever 22 by a ball and socket joint 19 held closed by a spring 25 engaging the slidable lever shaft 23. The bal 19 engages hemispherical recesses in the lever and nut and is bolted to the lever. In modifications the ball is (1) bolted to the nut, (2) formed integral with either the lever or the nut, or (3) is freely housed between recesses in the lever and nut. A projection 27 on the housing limits axial movement of the shaft 23 and the tension of the spring 25 is adjusted by a screw and but 26. |
