PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a durable membrane and a method for improving membrane durability. SOLUTION: This durable membrane comprises a membrane (16) provided with water vapor permeability and resistance to liquid penetration, and discrete attachment sites of a thermoplastic elastomer on the surface of the membrane (16). The membrane may be a stretched polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (12). The thermoplastic elastomer may be polyurethane (42). The discrete attachment sites of the thermoplastic elastomer on the surface of the membrane (16) includes the attachment sites of the thermoplastic elastomer that covers a portion of the surface area of the membrane (16) and leaves the remainder uncovered.
