PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projection type display device, where light leakage and noise are lessened and an inside heat generating member is appropriately cooled. SOLUTION: The projection type display device is equipped with: a housing 12; a light valve 20; a projection lens 36 for enlarging and projecting image light formed by the light valve; at least one heat generating member 14, 38 or 40 arranged in the housing; at least one first fan 42 for taking in cooling air to the inside of the housing so that the cooling air may blow off the light valve; at least one second fan 43, 44 or 45 arranged in the housing so that the cooling air may directly blow off at least one heat generating member; and a third fan 46 for exhausting the cooling air from the housing to the outside.
