PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a structure and easily adjust damping torque. SOLUTION: This auto tensioner 1 comprises a coil spring 8 rotatingly biasing a rotating member 4 having a pulley 5 relative to a housing 3 in a predetermined direction, a friction cone 11 for damping the swing of the rotating member 4 by producing a frictional force between the housing 3 and the rotating member 4 by the restoring force of the coil spring 8 in the center axis direction and a screw member 21 threadably fitted to the rotation member 4 and adjusting the restoring force of the coil spring 8 by varying the compressed amount of the coil spring 8 in the center axis direction by operating it from the outside.
