PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for improving exhaust gas characteristics and minimizing complexity and cost in internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: In this internal combustion engine, cylinders are allocated to at least two banks, and the cylinders in continuous with each other in the order of igniting are allocated to different banks. In each bank, a common switching means and a common capacitor for drivingly controlling a corresponding first means are allocated to respective cylinders in each bank. After the combustion after a main injection, a post-injection to the internal combustion engine is performed by the first means in the area between 100 and 270°from the top dead center.
