<p>An apparatus for controlling a communication unit and a control method thereof are provided to convert a current standby mode of the communication unit into a normal mode by a mode setting value included in a traffic notification signal transmitted from a BS, thereby saving power consumption of the communication unit by supplying the power only during the provision of a communication service. An apparatus for controlling a communication unit comprises a RF(Radio Frequency) transceiving unit(122), a storage unit(124), a trigger generator(130), and the communication unit(120). The RF transceiving unit transmits a standby mode request signal to a BS(Base Station)(110) and receives a standby response signal from the BS. The storage unit stores a mode setting value included in a traffic notification signal. The trigger generator generates a trigger signal according to the mode setting value stored in the storage unit. The communication unit performs mode conversion by the trigger signal.</p> |
