The method involves displacing a jaw clutch along a drive shaft with a low speed by an actuator, so that the clutch is temporarily immobilized at a starting time of its casing in a pinion or in the shaft. A casing ending position of the clutch corresponding to a stop position is deduced from the immobilization position of the clutch along the shaft corresponding to a casing starting position (pcr). An independent claim is also included for a gearbox comprising an actuator.
