A recording/reproducing apparatus, a method thereof, and a track seeking method are provided to prevent a lens part from colliding with a recording medium and to move a track effectively by varying the gap between the lens and the recording medium through a control part. A recording/reproducing apparatus comprises a pickup(1), a gap servo, and a control part. The pickup has a lens(40) irradiating the beam released from a light source(10) to a recording medium(50). The gap servo feedback controls the gap between the lens and the recording medium using a gap control signal. The control part varies the gap between the lens and the recording medium by giving an offset corresponding to the track moved distance to the gap control signal when seeking the track. The control adjusts the other gap according to the moved distance of the track. The size of the offset is proportional to the size of the moved distance of the track.
