PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map information updating device for automatically selecting and updating a piece of map information that is optimal for a user, from among multiple pieces of map information. SOLUTION: The map information updating device comprises a map information storage section (103) for storing map information; a position information detecting section (101) for detecting the current position; a movement history storage section (102) for storing a series of detected positions as movement history; a map information selecting section (104) and a map information updating section(105) for selecting, based on the move history stored in the move history storage section (102), either of a first updated map information providing section (108) or a second updated map information providing section (109) and acquiring updated map information from the providing section selected; an updated map information storage section (106) for storing the acquired updated map information; and a combining displaying section (117) for combining the map information stored in the map information storage section (103) and the updated map information stored in the updated map information storage section (106), and displaying the combined information.
