PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map information updating apparatus capable of automatically selecting a piece of map information suitable for a user out of a plurality of pieces of map information and updating the map information. SOLUTION: The map information updating apparatus is provided with: a map information storage section (103) for storing map information; a position information detection section (101) for detecting a present position; a movement history storage section (102) for storing a series of detected positions as movement history; a map information selection section (104) and a map information updating section (105) for selecting either one of a first updating map information provision section (108) and a second updating map information provision section (109) on the basis of the movement history stored in the movement history storage section (102) and acquiring updating map information from the selected updating map information provision section; an updating map information storage section (106) for storing the acquired updating map information; and a composite display section (117) for composing the map information stored in the map information storage section (103) and the updating map information stored in the updating map information storage section (106) and displaying composite map information.
