<p>A coffin 10 comprises a frame 12 and a cover layer formed from a plurality of strands of a first material interlaced with a plurality of strands of a second material. The cover layer is attached to the frame 12 by the second material to form a recess for receiving a cadaver. The cover layer is a woven cover layer comprising weft strands 62 formed of the first material warp strands 60 formed of the second material. Each of a plurality of the strands 60 of the second material pass through at least one through hole provided in the frame, thereby to secure the cover layer to the frame. The weft and warp strands 60, 62 may be rattan, raffia, sisal , jute, agol, vetiver, ulap, doa, wicker, willow, bamboo, seagrass. etc. Preferably the coffin carries a lid 16 which is secured to the frame 12 via wooden screws.</p> |
