An orange light emitting phosphor is provided to obtain a phosphor emitting light with high brightness without the generation of harmful gas in case of the excitation of blue light. An orange light emitting phosphor is represented by a(Sr_(1-x) Eu_x(1-y) Yb_xy)O.SiO2, wherein 2,9<=a<=3.1; 0.005<=x<=0.1; and 0.001<=y<=0.1. Preferably the sintering of the orange light emitting phosphor is carried out at a temperature of 1,200-1,350 deg.C for 0.5 hours or more.
