METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REDUCING OF METHANE EMISSIONS FROM THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH AND BIO-MAT FOR THE SAME

A method for reducing methane gas emitted from a soil covering layer or a ground surface of a waste landfill is provided to emit the carbon dioxide into the atmosphere after converting methane gas emitted from the surface of the ground into carbon dioxide using a methane oxidation reaction of aerobic methane oxidizing microorganisms activated by oxygen, and a bio-mat and a methane gas reducing system for the method are provided. A bio-mat(30) comprises: a mat type bio media layer(31) consisted of a bio media(11) having specific surface area, porosity and permeability that can activate aerobic methane oxidizing microorganisms and flow methane gas freely and having thermal conductivity that can protect the methane oxidizing microorganisms from temperature variation of the atmosphere; an upper protection sheet(32) which maintains the bio media layer in a mat shape, and protects the bio media layer from a climate change; a lower supporting sheet(34) which maintains the bio media layer in a mat shape, and through which methane gas flows freely; and joining units(35) for joining the upper protection sheet, the bio media layer, and the lower supporting sheet with one another to prevent the bio media in a granule state from scattering or leaning to one side.
