An apparatus and a method for protecting a user communication terminal from surge are provided to block surge current when a user computer is turned off and on so as to extend the life span of the user communication terminal and reduce power consumption. An apparatus(100) for protecting a user communication terminal(300) from surge detects whether a user computer(200) is turned on or off and turns on or off the user communication terminal according as the user computer is turned on or off. The apparatus connects a communication line(170) to an Internet line(190) when the user communication terminal is turned on and disconnects the communication line from the Internet line when the user communication terminal is turned off so as to block surge voltage or surge current and leakage current applied to the user computer and the user communication terminal.
